ABOUT

Emily Ennis is a Greensboro-based soprano known for her expressivity and bright vocal timbre.
Ms. Ennis uses her voice as a medium in order to connect with her audience and bring stories to life.

She completed her Master of Music in Opera at the Longy School of Music in 2020 in the studio of Jayne West. At Longy, she appeared in mainstage productions of Paride ed Elena and Countess Maritza, and in scenes from Cold Sassy Tree (Lightfoot), La Fille du Regiment (Marie), Der Bettelstudent (Laura), Street Scene (Rose) and The Beautiful Bridegroom (Leonora.) Ms. Ennis was also a featured soloist in Longy’s annual Oktoberfest benefit concert, and in a unique, semi-staged production of Elvis Costello’s The Juliet Letters. Additionally, she appeared in a student-led production of Michael Ching’s Speed Dating Tonight! (Julie.)

Ms. Ennis holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami under the tutelage of Nobleza Pilar. While at Frost, she earned the Outstanding Senior Award in Vocal Performance in 2018. She was also the Vocal Winner and a Finalist in the Frost Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. She most notably appeared as Lakmé in the Flower Duet from Lakmé with “timbres nicely blended” (South Florida Classical Review.) Her mainstage appearances include Cendrillon, The Rake’s Progress, and Dido and Aeneas. She was also featured in scenes from Zémire et Azor (Zémire) and The Magic Flute (Second Lady.) Additionally, she earned a scholarship to study voice and German in Salzburg in the summer of 2016.

In the summer of 2018, Ms. Ennis travelled to Sicily, where she sang the role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Mediterranean Opera Studio & Festival. She made her role debut as Pamina in a concert version of Die Zauberflöte with Manhattan Opera Studio in 2017. A native of Northern Virginia, Ms. Ennis first performed the role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Bethesda Summer Music Festival in 2016. She also appeared as Esmeralda in The Bartered Bride with the Bethesda Summer Music Festival in 2015. That summer, she also appeared as Third Spirit in Cendrillon at the Miami Music Festival. She made her role debut as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro in 2014 at MMF. In 2013, Ms. Ennis made her international debut in Siena, Italy performing the roles of Second Spirit in Cendrillon and Erste Knabe in Die Zauberflöte.

 

On the concert stage, Ms. Ennis has recently appeared as the soprano soloist in Dreams and Visions, and American Milestones with Calliope Music in Boston. With Manhattan Opera Studio, she performed at Carnegie Hall in scenes from Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna) and Werther (Sophie.) She also appeared in concert at the National Opera Center with arias from Hansel und Gretel (Dew Fairy) and Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Blondchen.) Ms. Ennis made her debut at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami in 2016 as the soprano soloist in Symphony of the Goddesses – featuring music from The Legend of Zelda.

 

She performed the title role of Amahl in Amahl and the Night Visitors with George Mason University Opera in 2012. Other early credits include the children’s choruses of Tosca, Turandot, and Carmen with the Washington National Opera.
